The Great Wilderness Clean-up is proof that sometimes all it takes is a single idea and the passion to make it happen.
It all started in a canoeing discussion forum. Someone posted a message and photos showing garbage they found in one of Ontario's Provincial Parks. Nancy Maddock started discussing her feelings about trash in the wilderness and mentioned that there should be a clean-up. Next thing she knew someone had suggested that she organize an event. So she did!
Nancy's first clean-up event was in Algonquin Provincial Park in May of 2006. Over a hundred bags of garbage were removed from the park's interior making the clean-up a great success.
2007 brought about many changes to the clean-up. Kevin Callan has joined forces with Nancy and they have made this an international event.
Nancy has dedicated this event to her father's memory, William Maddock, a man who had a passion for life and adventure, and a great love for the beauty of our Mother Earth.

Forest Knights are pleased to be supporting Nancy and the Wilderness Clean Up Campaign.
THE GREAT WILDERNESS CLEAN UP is now reaching out as far as the UK!

After much discussion we will be holding our main event on May 20th 2012 ,

As before, the basic idea is for people to form groups, choose a place to clean up - anywhere that people like to go to enjoy the wilderness - go for a weekend of camping, canoeing, hiking, backpacking, a walk in your neighbourhood park, etc.....and have a great time while you're doing a good deed.

Forest Knights invite you to join us in the fight to help save Mother Nature! To save Mother Earth! We have only one planet....one world....one home....Please help us save her.

***PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL VOLUNTEERS WILL BE PARTICIPATING AT THEIR OWN RISKS. PLEASE ALWAYS PRACTICE GOOD SAFETY HABITS.***

"Together we can make a REAL difference."

we are unofficially extending the event to include the entire month of May.

If you live in an area where this time frame is not possible to participate, then you can just hold your own group event(s), and still be participants within the greater whole of THE GREAT WILDERNESS CLEAN UP.
